The University of Missouri is looking for an ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR for a campus-wide light microscopy imaging facility. 
Applicants should have experience in some or all of the following areas:

*  confocal laser scanning microscopy
*  laser capture microdissection
*  bright field microscopy
*  DIC/Nomarski and phase contrast microscopy
*  wide field fluorescence microscopy
*  two-photon microscopy
*  deconvolution
*  FRET
*  spectral imaging/unmixing
*  image processing/analysis
*  all types of microtomy
*  immunocytochemistry
*  in situ hybridization

The Associate Director will be responsible for training users, maintaining instruments and developing protocols for a campus-wide multi-user facility. PhD desirable but not required for individuals with extensive experience. Although an ideal candidate would have experience in all of the areas listed above, candidates with extensive experience in selected areas and the desire and capacity to learn the additional areas will be considered. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Experience in a multi-user core facility would be viewed positively. Electron microscopy is not a component of this core facility. Semi Full Time (30 hours per week) with Flexible Hours
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Research Lab, the Research Technologist is responsible for developing and performing laboratory assays and procedures. Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures using appropriate standard and specialized instruments and techniques in accordance with established procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Develops, optimizes and performs routine and complex laboratory procedures using appropriate standard and specialized instruments and techniques in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitors and critically assesses results to differentiate and resolve technical, instrument and physiologic causes of problems, initiating appropriate corrective action as needed.
  • Evaluates validity of test results using quality control standards, instrumentation function checks.
  • Performs and maintains documentation of preventive and maintenance measures, troubleshooting and calibration procedures, quality control of equipment and reagents used.
  • Assists in protocol development, research design, and preparation of information and graphics required for publication or presentation.
  • Documents, organizes, evaluates and interprets data; demonstrates a working knowledge of computers software for preparing graphs, charts and statistical analysis.
  • Trains and oversees the works of laboratory assistants, medical students and residents on the performance of proper laboratory techniques. Assists animal technologist as needed.
  • Coordinates and organizes the scheduling of all work with co-workers and other departments to achieve maximum productivity and meet deadlines.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of biological specimens as required in accordance with developed protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Orders, receives and prepares reagents, solutions, stains, media, chemicals and other expendable supplies.
  • Monitors and documents handling and disposal of biological and chemical material to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Participates in appropriate professional organizations, department and hospital committees and stays current in literature pertaining to areas of research.
  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures and other applicable standards (i.e. Common Rule, HIPAA) with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology or related scientific field.  Experience in the following: mammalian cell culture, histology/histochemistry, immunobiology, micro titer techniques, chromatography, electrophoresis, Western blot/IP, microscopy and image analysis. One year laboratory experience.  Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.  Proficient in the use of computer, word-processing and database software applications.
